Here’s a brief round up of what we’ve been up to. Again teenagers and parents keep us busy throughout the year. We started the year with a walk to lake Spitzingsee that lies south of us towards the Alps. Even the girls enjoyed going through the woods and were rewarded with hot chocolate at the end. There was a fitting New Year’s quote on a painting on the side of a Bavarian house en route, an example of “Lüftlmalerei”, with the rough translation reading:
“A little more ‘we’, a little less ‘I’ - a little more strength, a little less whining;
And many more flowers during life itself - since those on the grave are to no avail.”
Phil has been spending a lot of time in the UK, helping his mother and latterly, his brother. He tore the cartilage in his left knee joint in February and this was operated upon in May, resulting in an ongoing period of recovery. He has been busy updating the house in Skipton over the summer. This involved erecting scaffolding in order to clear out the drains and gutters as well as painting them in June.
July was busy with Eve’s birthday, the Tour de France, World Cup and Eve’s first concert to see ‘Birdy’.
In August we spent a lovely holiday north of Barcelona, based in Roses, enjoying the wonderful “gulf” there that is great for swimming. The region has some good walks, history and culture, (as well as good food) and the Pyrenees are within reach, although the girls hated the “long” walk there and we only just made the last bus back.
We lost Katie’s Dad in September and were all over in England for the funeral, the children taking 3 days off school. In October there was another funeral after Phil’s sister-in-law Ruth passed away, which meant a couple of trips to London for him to support and assist his brother John.
Sabrina started her new school this term. This first year she has to start French from scratch and catch up with others who have done some already. She will hopefully complete a 3 year ‘A’ level equivalent this way and has trips planned to Rome and South Africa for 2015, all very exciting.
Evie continues on at her school; she is persistent in her exam preparations, particularly for German, Maths, French and Physics and continues to make progress on the violin.
And now, December has only just started but we’re already in full swing. We’ve been to a classical concert (Dvorak and Gershwin) and a pop one (the Beatle’s tribute show “Let It Be”), both good in their own ways and what with school activities, this becomes our second busiest month of the year after July.
