Alle Jahre wieder, as they say over here or perhaps OMC is more appropriate, as One More Christmas comes around seemingly so soon after the last one. We hope you are well and are enjoying Advent.

Here’s our roundup of 2016’s highlights and what we did more or less together:
January – went to the wonderful Sebastião Salgado photo exhibition of unexplored parts of the earth.
February – celebrated Nick’s birthday party in the Peak District, staying the weekend in a former pub.
March – some nice walks along the Isar river in the Spring sunshine.
April – croissants for weekend breakfasts and the sight of snow on the tops of cars at month end.
May – celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with a visit to Bradford Literature festival and The Inn.
June – That referendum, concerts by Paul McCartney and Lucinda Williams to distract us.
July – Eve’s birthday and associated celebrations, friends round and meals to cook.
August – Summer holidays this year were in Henley for the annual Rewind 80s Festival and then spending time exploring London with a treat to watch the Carol King musical. Eve brought friend Hannah along. Whilst Henley was wet, the weather in London couldn’t have been better and our location was ideal at the top of Covent Garden, perfect for exploring.
September – walk around Tegernsee, meals on the balcony, girls go back to school.
October – celebrated Axel’s birthday party in the Eifel region near Köln, at a renovated roman tavern.
November – lots of travelling for Phil, Katie breaks the bone above her elbow.
December – ongoing, more birthdays, a gospel concert and running behind as ever!

Sabrina and Eve are at the same school now which is has practical advantages, only one event to visit whether it be the Christmas concert or the Summer party. Homework tends to get done on the dining table, books sprawled out everywhere and then some rapid clear-ups at meal times.

Katie’s broken bone, due to a fall at Marienplatz, has meant she couldn’t play piano, but it is nearly mended now. She has joined the church band, bringing musical expertise and Phil also helps setup.

Both continue to visit the UK regularly to keep in touch with family and Phil has been to Portugal, Spain and Saudi Arabia with work.

Projects to complete in the coming year are the renovations in Clitheroe and some room changeovers in the flat.

“Und plötzlich weißt du: Es ist Zeit, etwas Neues zu beginnen und dem Zauber des Anfangs zu vertrauen / Suddenly you know it’s time for something new, time to trust in the wonder of a fresh  beginning.” Eckhart. We definitely need a break though before any new starts and end by wishing you:
